Story

TitleText
n/aA scholar of exquisite temperament, member #81 of the illustrious Genius Society, and an expert in the field of life sciences.
She earned Nous' attention with her talent and terrifying perseverance, and began her research on the origin of life in a secretive corner of the universe.
Subsequently, she was invited by Herta to collaborate with Screwllum and Stephen to develop the Simulated Universe.
Privately, she revels in traditional theater and desserts, and she is also very interested in embroidery.
n/aDuring her childhood, she received early exposure to science from her mother, who was a "scientist."

Her life in a tiny house with her family of science enthusiasts was filled with love. As such, it wasn't long before she realized there were subtle differences in "love," each kind coming with different scents.

Her grandmother with silver hair was a fan of traditional theater with its humming and chirping, while her father wore a pair of large, furry boots.
Her parents loved each other, but they still argued from time to time.
She was an impassive girl who made mistakes all the time, but was also forgiven all the time.

"I was closer with Aunt Arlice compared to my other relatives, as she would buy me snacks. Her love was the best."

Soon, the young girl learned to be stubborn. Her understanding of "love" broke away from the formulae taught in textbooks.
As she grew older, her mother became strict with her. Together, they walked one step at a time on a vast glacial planet.
The girl gasped and stopped on the way, carefully observing the fantastical and enchanting "lifeforms" buried beneath the glaciers - What used to be lifeforms, at least.

Every time she arrived home after going on scientific expeditions, it was time for "rewards" —
When she took a small bite of the cake, the mouthwatering aroma would immediately cling to the roof of her mouth. Her insignificant anticipation always gave her mother's research an inviting smell.

Starting from their home, a planet blessed by Abundance, they boarded research aircraft and set off to more worlds.
Surrounded by flash bombs, silk headscarves, ribbons, and embroidery, the girl embraced joy amongst "lifeforms" created by spiraling and ascending data.

"A-Ruan, after eating Qingtuan, you must wash your fingers thoroughly before you can touch the lab bench."
n/aShe was dressed all in black in a mourning attire at her parents' funeral. As usual, she still tied her hair neatly. Her expression was hidden behind her ink-black strands of hair.

She did not shed a single tear.

As the night fell, layers of geometric patterns formed by data spirals appeared on the screen in the lab. They shifted, expanded, and flowed along with the sound of traditional theater songs. After peeling away the layers of the patterns, the secret she meticulously crafted and protected with care was revealed — her parents with their eyes closed. Their faces were as impassive as if they were asleep.

"This is a let-down. They failed to keep their promise with Grandma."

"And I, too, let them down for failing to protect them as promised."

"Only science... never lets anyone down," she said.

Wanting her parents to be equal, she stopped using her previous nickname and gave herself a new name by combining each of her parents' surnames.

Since then, whenever someone asked her about her "home," there would be a flash of confusion in her eyes. She seems to have forgotten everything.
In such a state, she started working around the clock on her calculations. She was so engrossed in her research that she never ate regularly. When she was on a roll, she could spend entire days and nights working on research without sleeping, and only dozed off when she hit her limit.

Soon, she was only relying on the faint glow of fyreflies to gather her research results every night. The more dismissive she was of the existing laws of life, the quicker she progressed. She totally disregarded formulas, then moved on to ignoring the meaning of life. She simply observed, assessed with her hands, held the data in her palm to feel it, then proceeded to concoct new laws for species.

As a result, the ferns and flowers in her lab flourished ever more. They grew at a speed visible to the human sight, and ultimately filled every space in the lab. In the space between the flowers and leaves laid the serene and emotionless countenance of her parents, formed by the aggregation of "data."

The moment her sleeping "parents" were about to open their eyes — By then, she had nearly destroyed the existing laws of biological evolution on the entire planet, yet she still marched on toward her goal.
It wasn't until she looked up from her research and stared at the sky did she notice the gaze of the Erudition had descended upon her.
n/aAfter receiving the gaze of Nous, she left her home and began a reclusive life.

No one knew what she asked Nous, but after that incident, she became even more apathetic and impassive, and even more immersed in her research —She would only study the fundamental nature of "life."

A greater variety of "lifeforms" came into existence through her concoction.
Some "burning" lifeforms became flowing flames that crept and weaved under her feet. Sometimes, she felt like she was fire itself.
Some "fluid" beings turned into liquid light that slithered around her slender wrists. Sometimes, she felt like she was light itself.
Some living things concocted from "knowledge" attempted to develop their own thoughts, sentience, and emotions. They sometimes rambunctiously cry, guffaw, or wail — all these have been fused into her body.

Yet, she could not feel them.
Life only exists for such a short time, after all. They fleetingly pass from birth to death, and her research is the only constant.

Occasionally, her casual "research" would shake the schools of biology. Her "research" transformed many planets. Flying whales, swimming deer, fearful flowers, and trees with a vast root system... Her creations have already went beyond the scope of experience and imaginations comprehensible to organic life.

She kept pushing herself for a more in-depth understanding of "life," just to bring herself closer to Nous — and THEIR unforgettable glance.

Aeons... What kind of beings are they? Are they also a form of life?

As her "groundbreaking" studies rose to fame with in the cosmic academic community, people always tried to disrupt her life as a recluse.
She turned to look at the letter from the Genius Society on the desk and, once again, dumped it into the trashcan.
n/aShe is surrounded by an eccentric science fanatic from a small town, an inorganic lifeform, and a puppet girl. They indulge in afternoon tea and collaborate in research. They squabble loudly and giggle from time to time.

When did she first meet them? She can't remember, only that it was for a project. She was forced to be there — that, she is certain. With leisure, she munches on the cake. She became a part of this solely for the sake of simulated "Aeons," which are worth her time and efforts.

They are worth her time... but not worth being forced to socialize.

"Genius Society? I do not care."

"This is a strange, instinctive feeling. That one named 'Herta' is rather similar to me. I mean... similar on a deeper level."

She is certain that she won't make another mistake. It's because she no longer trusted anyone, so she won't be let down again, and... she won't let anyone else down again.
What is the fundamental essence of "life"... Where does "life" end?
Do the answers really exist?

Not a trace of emotion can be discerned on her emotionless and silent face. Yet, her hair is roiling with the heat of boiling and steaming, and the rims of her eyes are slightly red — she is enjoying this.

Only the word "Aeon" can stir her heart. Everything else in the universe is a mere distraction.

How interesting.
On the "incubator," a "life" nurtured by the "rice cooker" popped out in perfection. The method with which life is created is miraculous.
How romantic.
She knows better than anyone the price one has to pay to study Aeons... but she does not care. She knows! She might even — become...!?

The time is just right — The update for the "project" is about to commence.

She turns around and leaves.
Unbeknownst to the girl, her grandmother has always been watching her through the monitor, day after day for countless years.

"A-Ruan... My A-Ruan. When we finally meet again, would it be...?"

    • Hard to say depending on your need.

      Tingyun generally gives:
-50% atk for 1 character for 3 turns (capped by her own atk%)
-50% dmg bonus for 2 turns (Ult with average of 1 per 3 turns)
      -50 energy for 1 character

-she also deals 50% of her atk once every skill use on the target hit by the buffed unit

      Ruan Mei generally gives:
-30% damage for all allies for every turn.
-16% spd for all allies for 2 turns
-50% break efficiency for 2 turns
-20% All-Res Pen for all allies for 2 turns (Ult with 1 out of 3-4 turns)
-around 21-40% turn delay for enemy who with seamrend.(Ult 1 out of 3-4 turns)
-Extends the duration of weakness break.
-20% break effect for all allies for every turn.
-24% more damage for enemies with broken toughness bar

-She also additionally deals 150% of her break damage once (more or less) per enemy with Seamrend recovering from weakness break.
-She also additionally 12% of her break damage whenever a unit breaks a toughness bar, and also for every hit against weakness broken enemies.

        • If you are running 2 dps you get decent premium from her considering you get 30% damage for each allies free of charge, then 16% spd, then 20% Res pen for Ult. Break or not, 30% dmg bonus + 20% res pen + 16% spd, all for all allies, are already good enough bonuses.

And of course, Tingyun really is good unit. The energy, specially if paired with Huohuo, is really good.

    • The optimal Blade/SW team would be mono wind (Blade Huohuo Bronya SW) otherwise the weakness implant will be inconsistent, Lynx is an alright replacement to Huohuo
There’s only 5 wind characters, which means your other options would be Sampo or Dan Heng, who… aren’t good with Blade, so you’ll need to get Bronya (who is his best support anyway)
You can bridge weaknesses (put in a unit the enemy is already weak to so that weakness isn’t in the implant pool) until you get Bronya but just get her with the 300 standard guarantee
Both units are also amazing in teams other than Blade’s so you’ll have no issues using them in the future
I’d pick SW just be aware she may be a little awkward until you get Bronya

  5. This has become a trend in HSR huh? You need E1 to extend her buff into 3 turns just like Huohuo with her passive. Fu Xuan too if you want to get free 30% CDMG you must have her E1. I’m pretty sure any sustainer and harmony in the future will have this kind of treatment.

    • gotta make people feel powerful for getting them, the bait is strong.
but at least they balance the end game well enough to be beatable at E0 for the most part.

and it’s not like we need E1 anyway.
even if you gain about extra 60-120 jade per Hall cycle by getting E1/new 5-star will take like 90 cycles or like 45 months to make up for it haha.

      • You do know the point of eidolons is to make characters better right? It’d be worse for both the players and for HyV if the early eidolons were bad.
Like you said MoC is balanced around E0, and you don’t need E1
Huohuo, Fu and Ruan Mei are all top tier units at E0 that just become even better at E1

I hope this doesn’t too impactful when they release new harder difficulty features.

  6. She enhance break, but she herself is an ice, a lowest in class for break damage and she doesn’t even help breaking. kit is weird an all, why won’t i just use Bronya to boost ally damage right at the start than waiting for breaking just for some additional damage?

    • i think the nuance of her kit is not actually her breaking but enhancing the team, in most team comps you don’t want her to be the one to break unless its DOT or you want to CC the enemy

    • Her kit feels like as soon as you break the enemy you legitimately want to jump on that enemy before he recovers from weakness break which is kinda funny. I think she’s good for dot and traditional damage dealers it just needs to make you think who’s gonna break the enemy, for DOT you may her to break instead since from that delay you can probably proc 2 kafka skills so thats 150% of the original dots plus the penetrations she’s providing while advancing the enemy the next turn forward while procing the original dot faster while the pen is up. while for the tradional damage dealers as soon as the weakness break goes down, that’s the best time to full blown nuke the enemy since if i remember correctly weakness broken enemies are squishier so adding that pen and your team probably putting defense down and attack buff to your team it’s gonna be a fiesta

      • My worry about running her with DoTs is that they’re missing out on her A6. DMG Dealt vs [condition] effects seem to always specifically mention they affect DoTs, otherwise they don’t. For example, Fermata (vs WShear/Shocked) and GNSW (vs Debuffed) mention they affect DoTs, meanwhile Guinaifen’s A6 (vs Burned) doesn’t (and I’ve tested it).

I’ve had the idea to attempt a DoT + Freeze team before too because of the Turn Advancement, but… You’re kinda missing out on the Break DoT (which imo matters, esp. for Bleed) if they stay Frozen and Broken for too many turns, so I don’t know if Ruan Mei is it either.

        • I thought this was already cleared and dusted.

All damage bonuses affect regular Dots (break effect DoTs are not). The descriptions on the LCs you mentioned are not enforcing clauses, they are only clarificatory, which ironically causes confusion. Even LCs and effects that don’t have those increases DoT damage. Again, it was not there to enforce said effect and to exclude others without it. Again, it was only to clarify things. This was an issue that was already cleared with Kafka’s LC.

I don’t know how you tested it, but you tested it wrong with Guinaifen.

          • I know plain Dmg%/Dmg Dealt does indeed affect DoTs (and that Break DoTs aren’t).
But the “conditional” Dmg Bonuses, by which I mean those that say they require the target to be under some effect or condition (for example, while being Burned), does not. I’ve seen this with Hook’s E6 long ago, and now with Gui A6. I should probably be able to see this if I test with Serval E6 too.
Kafka’s 5* LC is a plain Dmg bonus, Fermata and GNSW are conditional. I would’ve agreed that it makes far more sense not to include the “affects DoT” clause *if* it was unnecessary. But Hoyo added it there for a reason, so it only makes sense that it matters especially when it’s gone.

As for my methods, I input my characters’ stats in on my sheets. I record test runs and compare the damage I get, accounting for everything that goes on in the fight, give or take some decimals. You’re free to try it yourself, do be very thorough about it though.

    • She wants enemies to get Broken fast, and to stay Broken for longer. While you don’t necessarily need the Freeze Break, if enemies are Frozen then that still effectively extends the turns they’re Broken for.

Enemy will attempt to recover from Freeze > then attempt to recover from her Ult (if you applied its effect) > then finally fully recover from Break.

    • You gain 30% increased damage right off the bat without taxes.
Meaning, if you have 2 or even 3 more damage dealers, these 2 or 3 damage dealers gain that 30% free of charge (SP/conditions)

She is better used with teams that have more than 1 attacker since all her buffs are party-wide. She is also good for those who want an SP neutral support.

      You also gain the following:
-additional damage equivalent to 12% her break damage if weakness broken enemy is attacked
-24% bonus damage to weakness broken enemies
      -20% break effect bonus
      -16% more spd
      -50% more break effect efficiency
      -20% All-Res Pen
      -enemy turn delay
      -Weakness break extension
-150% of her break effect damage

    • It says “X% of Ruan Mei’s Ice Break DMG.”
So it’s doing X% of the damage she would do during a weakness break that she initiated. So effectively it scales off her Break Effect.
(Important to note that obviously, she doesn’t have to be the one to weakness break the enemy who is affected by this Ultimate for it to do damage.)

  7. Why has no one mentioned Welt so far? I think he would profit from her support the most, as she enhances everything in his kit. Welt wants enemies weakness broken, he slows them down, and deals more DMG against said weakness broken enemies. And Ruan Mei doubles down on it.

Imagine Ruan Mei and Welt with Remembrance Path in SU or even Swarm Disaster. Don’t know if it might be viable, but it sounds at least like a lot of fun to me.

Any opinions on Ruan Mei and Welt synergy?

    • Thinking of the same thing, since ruan mei is better with 2 dps setups, the other sub dps with minimal skill point usage like jingliu, blade, Arlan, Su shang( with weakness broken enemies), topaz(there is little synergy with the other two but she could be sp efficient), could be slotted in depending on the boss weakness, + sustain. I wonder fire mc would be enough for solo sustain with these two around since you could time your taunts well and he/she wouldn’t have to taunt that often considering the enemies would have to take turns after they realized they’re ded.

      • There is no point in puting 2 dps if the element of one of them is different from the element of the boss. So either you wait for more characters and bosses or, for example, go full icebreaker with Jingliu/Pela/Ruan. Also 2 dps may cause problems with SP consuption.

  8. Main team Ting Bro Dps Sus
Main team2 (Ting5star) Hanabi Dps Sus
Dot team Kaf Black Dot Sus
Follow up Topass (FUHarmony) Dps Sus

Rain bow (Blade and Jingliu or 2 low sp unit) Ruan mid Hana/Bro/ting/any buffer

Ruan Mid is too risky and force to replace any sustain unit in every team her go in order to have good dps and become woth it. She is high risk high reward.

  9. so we should put defensive as main stats like def or hp% to increase her survivability right? and a speed boost. And for the substats we’re looking for speed and break effect?
For the rope I prefer ER than break effect

    • her whole kit relies on a TON of Break Effekt
if you only want her Buffs itself, sure, use ER and Spd, but if you want her Ult and Skill to be active as long as possible and save Skillpoints the same time, let her be on 109 SPD and Focus on Breakeffect
The Bonusdmg her Ult does – based on Breakeffect – can be quite a bunch

So either go on Spd and ER to SPAM Skill and Ult
Or Let her be Slow and increase Break to let her Buffs simply be active while giving her the opportunity to deal a decent amount of dmg

      thats how i see it

In subs look for speed and BE, you can also pick thief set if you want more BE and some energy, but hacker set will be better for team (if nobody else in team using it already).
