스토리

여우족과 보리인의 오래된 가요의 첫머리, 「청구의 별」의 비옥한 땅과 살기 좋은 날씨를 그리워하는 구절이 없는 노래가 없었다. 하지만 잘 읽어보면 그건 「전쟁」이라는 영원한 주제의 도입부라는 걸 알아차리는 꼼꼼한 사람이 있었다.
여우족은 농사를 짓고 장사하는 재능으로 하천을 끼고 번영한 도시를 건설했다. 견융의 아들은 오로라의 드넓은 하늘 아래, 드넓은 초원에서 사냥을 하고 방목을 하며 별처럼 늘어선 취락을 만들었다. 상인들은 목자의 야만스러움을 비웃었고, 목자는 상인의 교활함을 싫어했다. 하지만 그들 모두 자연의 순환의 냉혹한 고문인——「여우의 여름」과 「늑대의 겨울」을 마주해야 했다.
여우신이 풍작을 하사한 여름에는 두 부족은 전쟁을 멈추고 각자 만족했다. 늑대의 신이 서리를 내리면 북쪽에서부터 눈의 경계선이 퍼져가고, 기근이 양측을 끝없이 공격했다.
가요에서는 청구에 태양이 서른세 번 떠도, 늑대의 겨울은 물러나지 않는다고 했다. 결핍과 기근이 오면, 토템의 숭배하는 동물이라도 배를 채우기 위해 잡아먹을 수밖에 없었다. 곳곳에 백골이 널린 결말을 예견한 후, 한 구세주가 세상에서 가장 높은 산 정상에 올랐다——여우 신화에서 사람들은 그녀를 「도산」이라고 불렀고, 보리인의 노래에서는 사람들은 그를 [도람]이라고 불렀다. 그 구세주의 이름과 상관없이, 그는 장생의 주인에게 사람들이 살아갈 수 있는 물자를 달라고 소원을 빌었다. 그러자 산 정상이 갈라지고, 갈라진 틈에서 천상의 음료처럼 달콤한 「붉은 샘」이 솟아났다.
붉은 샘물을 마신 사람들은 고기에서 얻을 수 있는 힘과 민첩함, 강인함을 얻었다. 그들의 핏속에는 짐승의 야만스러움이 들끓기 시작했고, 짐승의 용모가 갈수록 뚜렷해졌다——이렇게 세계는 변했고, 더는 예전 같지 않았다.
붉은 샘을 매개로 새로 태어난 견인들의 모든 기물은 그 안에서 만들었다——밭에는 농작물이 아닌 시육을 심었고, 섬유 직물이 아닌 포의로 몸을 가렸다. 청구 문명이 두려워 마지않았던 추위는 더는 무서운 것이 없었다. 견인들은 극지에서 미생물막을 키워 따스한 장막을 만들었다. 이때부터 늑대의 겨울의 괴로움은 단절되었다.
이후의 청구의 격변은 모든 단생종이 장수종으로 바뀔 때 겪은 것처럼——인구가 폭증하고, 생태계가 붕괴되고, 내전이 일어났고… 견인들이 장생의 주인에게 아무리 기도해도, 다시는 응답을 듣지 못했다. 그래서 그들은 장생의 주인께서는 이미 충분히 하사하셨으니, 더 잘 살고 싶으면 스스로 손에 넣어야 한다는 것을 깨달았다.
위대한 소부 도람의 옆에 모인 견인들은 장생의 주인이 군림하고 있는 하늘을 바라보았다. 별들이 반짝이는 것이 마치 질주를 기다리는 초원 같았다. 그들은 그 별들의 문명에 「늑대의 겨울」을 가져다줄 것이다.
오랜 시간이 지나고, 숙적인 선주 사람은 그들을 「보리인」이라고 불렀다. 보리는 청구어로 「늑대」라는 의미였다KR0W

연결 매듭

보리인의 언어에서 고삐의 별명은 「야사•치타」로, 「살아 있는 책」이라는 의미이다.
마녀 사냥꾼들은 두 개의 달이 만나고, 밤하늘이 가장 빛날 때 도람의 자손들에게 성인식 선물로 고삐를 준다. 이 텅 빈 고삐는 그들의 평생의 전투 경험을 기록하는 책이 된다.
성인식이 끝나자마자 보리인은 반드시 무기 목장에 가서 유전자 요술 선택과 품종을 개량한 「기계짐승」 중에 선택하고, 자신의 첫 번째 탈것을 훈련해야 한다. 정복자가 먹이를 준 기계짐승은 놀라운 민첩함과 잔혹함을 가지고 있는데——미래의 주인에게 비하면 기계짐승들은 어린 양에 지나지 않는다. 달빛이 몸 안에서 솟구치는 야만스러운 피를 불러일으키면, 보리의 청년들은 기계짐승과 서로 쫓고 싸운다. 어떤 이는 짐승에게 물려 죽는데 그것은 약한 자의 말로이고, 어떤 이는 동포를 해치는데, 그것은 맹수의 분배 법칙이다…보리 청년은 마음에 드는 탈것을 골라 쓰러뜨리고, 신경 가시 채찍을 가진 고삐를 목에 건다——탈것은 미래 주인의 텔레파시에 겁을 먹고, 채찍을 몇백 번은 맞은 것처럼 온순해진다. 녀석이 적극적으로 주인을 태울 때, 어엿한 보리인 「색아」(무사, 기사)가 탄생한다.
이때 보리 고삐는 전투 경험의 서술자가 되고 고삐에는 생채기와 매듭, 장식물이 늘어난다.
훈련을 거친 색아들은 「안다」(통군 백부장)의 인솔 아래 해파리 같은 포의 갑옷을 입고 우주를 오갈 수 있는 수함을 타고서 여러 세계를 향해 출항하며, 앞으로 도람과 장생의 주인의 이름으로 뭇별들을 목장으로 만들겠다고 맹세했다. 고삐의 옅은 흔적은 죽인 적의 수를 뜻하고, 매듭은 겪었던 대전을 뜻하며, 장식물은 약탈 시에 얻은 전리품인 사람의 치아나 지능 기계의 실리콘 칩 등의 전리품이었다…그것들은 정복당한 자의 분노와 슬픔이자 보리인의 힘을 보여주는 훈장이었다.
가랑이 아래 탈것이 전쟁에서 사망했을 때, 또는 보리인이 벌하고 싶을 때는 고삐를 풀어 다른 생물에 걸기도 한다.
보통 그 대상은 여우족——그 혈통 선택 육성 계획의 선택을 받지 못한 이종족 노예 계층이다. 그들은 약소하고, 교활하며, 노동과 계산에나 어울린다. 간혹 여우족에 전투에 능한 개체가 나타났을 때, 늑대 머리의 주인은 우선 고삐로 그들을 묶고 전투 노예로서 선두에서 돌격하게 한다.
노예가 죽거나 다치고, 무기가 부러지면 고삐 끝에 묶은 날카로운 가시를 채찍으로 쓸 수 있다. 채찍이 끊어지고 이와 발톱이 부서져 전당에 묻힌다면, 이 고삐는 보리인의 남은 비석이자 기념이 될 것이다……
「숲에서는 사냥꾼과 사냥감의 위치가 늘 바뀐다」는 속담이 있다. 우주라는 이 어두운 숲에서 선주 사람과 수천 년을 싸운 후, 늑대족의 채찍은 셀 수도 없이 끊어졌다. 결국 그 수많은 사냥꾼 무리를 다스리는 「수렵」의 화살촉에 의해 절단되었고, 보리인도 내란과 패배의 구렁텅이에 빠져 더는 옛날처럼 거만하지 못했다KR0W

    • by a pretty decent margin yes. salsotto (assuming you’re running that) only offers a 15% DMG boost, while this can stack up to 24% and you only need 4 followups launched to exceed salsotto. it’ll be even better in PF or MOC cause you ramp up for the 2nd wave where the enemies are stronger.

      • This set imo is great for characters like jade Topaz, and Clara

        while it seems like Ratio would love this, you would be neglecting his ult and skill damage to boost up his FuA. additionally I think he needs crit rate way more then he needs crit damage. it’s why people go inert salsetto despite glammoth being better the 8% crit is very helpful.

        Blade wouldn’t go this since his damage is from EBA I wouldn’t neglect that to boost up his FUA

        Jing yuan is like Ratio while most of his damage is FuA but you’d be neglecting his skill and ult not to mention I believe people run him hyper carry anyway in those teams this set would be a dead one.

  3. The thing intresting with this one is that is not the wearer who must do follow up to stack, but allies.

    Meaning if the wearer have a slow followup (ex. Jing Yuan) paired with someone with a lot of follow up (ex. topaz/ratio), he will stack it more frequently than if ratio as this set and jing yuan does the stacking.

    I think this set will be used on frequent follow up teams. (For me it’s my Clara/Topaz team and both use this set)

    • I believe the wearer’s FUAs should still contribute towards the stacks.

      They tend to specify “other allies” (e.g. Penacony 2pc) or “wearer’s allies” (e.g. Sparkle LC) if the wearer is excluded.

    • Yeah this one lacks the crit rate boost but does seem like it offers more consistence damage. even if you fail to kill enemies. Which given some of that is damage %. Hmm. Not sure how that would effect the numbers. Still. It would be like damn it not again.

    • I don’t think it fits either Herta or Himeko to be Honest, they’ll fit more with either salsoto or Sigonia or Izumo Gensei.

      This one needs your allies FuA, both herta and Himeko FuA are inconsistent, sometimes you do 1 with herta and sometimes you’ll do 5. and Himeko is even more difficult.

      With Salsoto you probably already have a good set, with Sigonia you can Max stack it easily in Pure Fiction, for Izumo Gensei its need to be paired with the same path, since you’ll most likely use herta too right?

      I’m talking with my perspective of you tackling Pure Fiction, and not regular MoC.

      I think this one fits Jing Yuan (Another Buff Again), Ratio, Clara. Blade??? idk 🤷‍♀ I don’t play blade. basically those who have shitty slow FuA and do a single big damage.
